Will frosting powder lighten black hair?

I found a box of Revlon Frost and Glow and even though it's initially for highlights I was thinking of using it to lighten my black hair. Will it work? I don't plan on leaving it too long since I don't want to go blonde or orange..I just want to go back to a shade of brown. Has anyone tried this?
