I need to know how to make a black powder solvent/cleaner that really really works to clean a traditional black powder rifle that doesn't like to fire beacause of the breach plug not getting thoroughly cleaned( this Gun Is Not An Inline so you can't take the breach plug out)Do you know how to make a homemade black powder solvent (this is a question for hunters)?
go with Doobie. Believe it or not, hot soapy water is best. You don't have to get it too hot, though. Wash thoroughly then make your final rinse water really hot -- nearly boiling. That will dry the gun. when it cools a bit, do a good job oiling it.
Have fun, be safe!

The proper way to clean a black powder weapon is just like they used to, with hot soapy water and lots of elbow grease. After it has dried then run a patch down the barrel with gun oil , wipe the outside with the same. I use an old toothbrush on mine to get all the nooks and crannies.
Use water as hot as you can stand it, the hot water heats the metal and helps it to dry.
