Can a felon own a black powder rifle?

Depends on what state you are in and then in my home state of Indiana it depends on if the felony was considered a violent felony. A violent felon is bared by law in Indiana from owning a firearm including black powder. However a non-violent felon can own, use %26amp; posse a black powder rifle here. Can a felon own a black powder rifle?
Some states allow you to petition to have your second amendment rights restored but depending on the crime it may not even be worth it to try like domestic violence, crime involving weapons like armed robbery or discharging weapons at a structure etc etc. But federal laws do not prohibit felons in possession of black powder weapons. Can a felon own a black powder rifle?
It's my understand that since the BATF doesn't classify a black powder rifle as a firearm, that it is legal for a felon to own one.
Yes - in fact there was a time in this country where you would leave your rifle at the prison gate and they gave it back to you the day you were released.
The answer depends on what state one is living in. Federally it is legal. But States like California and New Jersey it is not.
Under Federal law yes it's legal
