How do you make black powder?

black powder for guns ang rifles.......How do you make black powder?
Wonderful place to ask this question.

First off, it is VERY DANGEROUS to attempt to make black powder. It takes specialized tools and great experience. Black powder, unlike modern smokeless powders, can be detonated if it jarred or dropped. In other words, too much pressure on it and it explodes!

Another thing, it is NOT equal parts of the 3 main ingrediants.

Ok, but assuming that you are preparing for the worst...like some sort of economic armagedon...then here is a link that explains the process. Read it. Print it. Save it. Just don't try it unless you are face starvation and need to make black powder to go hunting to sustain yourself...

Potassium Nitrate, charcoal(carbon),sulfur. good luck getting the ingredients together and measured accurately though. potassium nitrate and sulfur are available at any drugstore but good luck getting the pharmacist to sell it to you. Can you say UNI-BOMBER? LOL

Besides the mark up on such products make buying the individual ingredients uncost effective. just buy black powder.
It is not hard to find recipes for black powder on line. Some of them will tell you that you can make your own gun powder. Usually, what you end up with is an extremely dangerous process that can very easily blow up and kill you. What many people don't understand is that black powder is easily set off by grinding. If you grind the charcoal, sulfur and salt peter separately and them mix them together, you end up with a mixture that is easily separated by vibration or jiggling. As it separates, it changes in its reactivity and can increase or decrease in power. Some of the recipes tell you how to mix your powder with water and then force the paste through a screen to make a granular powder. You have to thoroughly dry the powder and then sieve it to separate it into the various grades. This sieving requires that you buy some pretty expensive sieves. In the end, you will find that you are far better off and far safer just spending the money and buying commercial black powder. I have a degree in chemistry and have worked with some pretty dangerous stuff but I wouldn't even consider making black powder. I value my limbs and life more than that.
I work in special effects, making explosives is dangerous for us and we are BA min. I would buy it the equipment and safety measures required are well beyond the means of the average person.

For reference and educational purposes only:

BP is equal parts salt peter, sulfur, and carbon
you cant bench make black powder consistently good enough for a black powder rifle. YOU SHOULDN'T DO THIS. PERIOD. you can kill yourself
