Shipping a black powder handgun?

To ship a black powder handgun (Colt Navy reproduction) from Florida to Ohio do you need to go through a FFL? I know on the recieving end you do not but on the shipping end do you?

Thanks.Shipping a black powder handgun?
Shipping is not a problem, even on the receiving end.

Buy one from Cabela's...they ship it right to you. UPS will require an adult signature, though.Shipping a black powder handgun?
Black powder firearms are NOT considered firearms under title 18 section 922. They can be shipped person to person, Obviously while obeying any rules of your shipper.

To the poster above. They are NOT Curio %26amp; Relic. C%26amp;R is any non blackpowder gun older then 50 years or on the ATF's C%26amp;R list. the only thing a C%26amp;R gets you is the ability to ship to a Curio %26amp; Relic dealer (type 03 FFL) / 03 FFL's are $30 for 3 years and not subject to the zoning restrictions ATF places on 01/ FFL's .

The link below will help you not give advise that makes people unknowingly commit federal felonies.
Black powder guns are considered Relics or Curios and are exempt from firearm registration and restrictions.

Ohio has even more lax firearm laws.

Clean and oil it well....wrap and ship as you would any other merchandise......insure it for the antiquity value......To protect yourself, when you ship it, you can require signature of an adult which will almost guarantee it will end up in the correct hands.

You can use the services of a fire arms dealer, but I do not think it would be necessary.
black powder revolvers and rifles have been ruled by the BATFE NOT to be a firearm as defined. therefore, they are un regulated and can be shipped thru the mail. just make darn sure it is unloaded, no powder or caps may be shipped in the mail, but I prefer ups or fed ex. package it well, but do not seal the package. take it to fed ex or ups direct, they will inspect it, make sure it is packaged properly, seal it with you there, and ship it. Just be sure to purcahse insurance on it..
