Can i buy a black powder rifle in michigan thru the mail?

I wanted to buy a black powder rifle from a dealer in washington state can I do this going directly from him to me or do I need to have it shipped to a ffl dealer.thanksCan i buy a black powder rifle in michigan thru the mail?
Black powder muzzle-loading weapons (including all revolvers) are classified as antiques, relics, and/or curios and are not regulated as modern firearms and can be purchased and shipped with their accessories through the mail. (Don't forget the insurance!)

Black powder CARTRIDGE weapons are an entirely different class, and must be handled through a FFL dealer.

Black powder itself is classed as a low explosive and a hazardous material and requires special permits, fees %26amp; handling.

With the incurred shipping %26amp; insurance involved, you would probably be better off having a dealer handle the grunt work, especially if you are lucky to count a really good one as a personal friend, as I do.

P.S: If you really love smokewagons, and haven't found it yet, check out Dixie Gun Works for ALL things black powder. It's really incredible what's all in their catalogue!Can i buy a black powder rifle in michigan thru the mail?
Living in Michigan, you can purchase a black powder rifle from anywhere and have it shipped to you.
Yes, black powder rifles don't fall under the same laws as ';modern'; rifles. You can have it shipped to your home from places like Cabelas and Sportsman's Guide.
Black powder weapons fall under different regs. than modern weapons. The Washington dealer can ship the rifle directly to you.

The answer from ';Scott M'; made me cringe. Taking a modern rifle apart does get around the law. You can ship, or even mail, most parts of a modern rifle. The part that the Government labels as the rifle is usually the receiver and that is the part that is restricted. Since Scott and his buddy shipped the receiver without the FFL they violated the law. They were very lucky they didn't get caught at it. They saved about $50 at the risk of going to prison for 10 years.
i live in MI and i bought a rifle from a guy in texas. i just had him mail it in two seperate pieces so neither of us would get in trouble for ';Unlawful Transport of a Deadly Weapon.';

it's worth calling your local PD *anonymously* about, tho.
