HWats the max load for a .50 black powder pistol?

I've heard 40 grsains of fffg, but has anyone here tried more, and if so what happened? did it take it ok?HWats the max load for a .50 black powder pistol?
IMR3031 and H335 are smokeless powders. NEVER use smokeless powder in black powder guns! Serious injury or even death could occur.

What kind of gun do you have? What brand? What model? I have .50 black powder pistols with max loads from 40gr FFFg up to 70gr FFFg. Not all black powder handguns use same amount of powder. You need to provide more info.HWats the max load for a .50 black powder pistol?
Ok it has to do with powder and to much or to little is dangerous you would be best getting a reloading book. See lets say 40gr of ummm IMR3031 was a good load but the same power was found with 35gr of lets say H335 the it would be bad to use 45gr of H335 that would be to much power and could ccause the gun to blow up in your face well the chamber. You need a book like Modern Reloading by Richard Lee.
In my repro Remington I run about 30 grains of black powder...

NEVER use smokeless [modern] powder in a blackpowder weapon : you might live to regret it.

One source I read said to put paper on the ground in front of where you stand and fire...if you see unburned powder, you've overloaded the charge.
do not use smokeless powder as the first poster said.....go to the website of the company that makes your pistol and get an online manual and read it and do not use more than it says......40 grains is about right
