Now if you are a 19 year old packing a blackpowder revolver or derringer concealed, you might well get in trouble. But unless things have changed since I moved away from Alabama, you don't need a permit to own or buy a gun in Alabama, the only permit you need is for concealed carry.

Agree with the first answer. In ohio they just do a backround check and issue you the gun if there isnt any felonies. The hunters education course ( if you havent done one yet ) is the best option,. That way if you are ever stopped by a Warden or Law official etc It shows that you are qualified to be using it.
No.... black powder muzzle loaders can even be shipped directly to your door without an FFL as a middle-man.
All this ';hunter safety'; stuff is bull. There are no ';permits'; for black powder firearms in Alabama.... nor are there permits for such things as AR15s and AK clones. Alabama is a free state.
