Your 2nd ammendment rights - even in states with strict anti-gun laws - are totally unable to regulate the sale of black powder rifles and the powder that makes them go boom. Which is great - since after Tueday when Obamma take office we may all be going back to black powder guns.





However, black powder is classified as an explosive - where as modern smokeless powder is not. Fire Marshals have a strick policy on the storage of black powder - it can be very hard to find in urban areas.

If you have a FOID card you will need it for everything that goes with firearms. Ammo. black powder the works. Make life easy move to Indiana.
Im in Chicago... i would hate to ask why you might like black powder..lol, but yes any ammo is required to have an FOID card. They are not hard to get, less you live in THE CITY OF CHICAGO. lol
Get on line at powderinc.com They sell black powder and I have purchased rom them several times. They are in Tennessee, I believe. They will tell you what you need and if I remember right, you have to be 21 and send them a copy of your drier license.





I don't recall now if I had to give them a FOID copy or not. Powder sales are reported for anything 5 pounds and above I believe. Powderinc. sell in 5 pound increments. Check their site out in any event and they will tell you what you need. I live in Illinois also but it has been a couple years since I ordered any powder. 5 pounds lasts awhile.





They will let you mix and match granulation though.
