I just recently bought a double barrel black powder musket. The gun looks really, really old. The only writing on the gun says ';Collins Maker.'; There are engravings on the gun and some symbols which seems to look like crowns. I cannot find any information on this gun on the internet. Do you know about how much this gun is worth and possibly where I can get information about the gun?Double Barrel Black Powder Musket?
Take it to a reputable gunsmith.Double Barrel Black Powder Musket?
I can't tell you anything about the gun, and the proof marks aren't likely to help much. I do hope you have the bullet mould. The black powder from a century and more ago isn't the same as the Goex you're used to, and that by itself is a challenge in finding a load that'll shoot. If you have to figure out the bullet, too, you're in for a real challenge in the regulation. Doubles are regulated to shoot a particular weight and shape of bullet with a specific charge. An old classmate of mine bought a double BP cartridge rifle once, and he gave up on it. My father and I spent months (and tried three different custom moulds) before we got it back to shooting both barrels to the same point.
Of course, you'll want to have a smith give it the once-over before you even try shooting it, and perhaps he'll be able to give you some information.
