Because of the burning rates and the pressures reached by smokeless powders, they must never be substituted for black powder in a muzzleloader. yes people use this mainly in muskets (old muzzel loaders). todays bullets use whats called smokeless powder. they still use black powder but when it gets wet and/or old it doesnt work right. smokeless powder will fire if used in a period of 10 years or better, and sometimes if its wet
