The end cap would be put on by putting the two pieces in a vice.
If it would ignite, would wrapping the black powder in paper prevent this?
If it would not ignite, how much pressure would be required to ignite it?
Thanks for all your help, I'm doing a paper on black powder.

Andrew the way you worded your question makes me very wary about how to answer you. If your truly doing a research paper do some online work. Go to Remington powder safety, they have a good online safety section. Also you can go to the pyrodex website. As a bit of advice to your question, since the development of black powder fire arms there have been thousands of reported cases of powder being ignited from being struck to hard by a ramrod. Best advice if you don't know what your doing leave propellants alone.Does black powder (gunpowder) ignite under pressure?
It sounds like you are asking if you will blow your hand off if you screw the cap on a pipe bomb that you want to make. I seriously hope that isn't your intention.
Black powder can explode under impact, such as hitting it with a hammer. I really can't say whether it would explode by being compressed in a plastic cylinder. When a muzzle loading gun is loaded, the powder is lightly tamped in place when the bullet is rammed down the barrel, so i don't think mild pressure would ignite it.
Yes it could. Please don't play with gun powder. Remember Diesel engines use no spark plugs just lots of compression to ignite fuel/air mixture. Also if there is a spark anywhere kaboom........
Pressure depends on many things like type of powder, temp, humidity etc,.......
Whoa this is deep please tell me your not think of this.
